Who We Are

Background

It was acknowledged at a meeting held on September 2nd, 2023, in East London, by a group of concerned Somalilanders living in and around London who discussed recent events in their homeland, while also acknowledging the crucial role the army plays is in preserving peace and security in Somaliland.

After deliberations, It was decided during the meeting that, although the army plays a crucial role in preserving piece and security in Somaliland, that a non-profit organisation named “Friends Of Somaliland” was needed to be founded in order to aid and support the country’s disadvantaged orphans and families.

Mission
The Friends of Somaliland mission is to improve the quality of life for Somaliland families.

Vision
It is to provide independent, confidential and professional specialist welfare support services for Somaliland families.

Objectives

  • To provide education opportunities to the orphans of Somaliland.
  • To provide free healthcare for families and disabled soldiers.
  • To organise recreational activities for disadvantaged families in Somaliland.
  • To provide support for the disabled soldiers with the acquisition of new skills to then integrate back to civilian life.
  • To connect and coordinate efforts to help and support Somaliland families from Somalilanders in the UK and beyond.

Activities & Projects

  • To organise fund-raising events for projects to support Somaliland families needs.
  • Setting up help centres in Somaliland for healthcare and education.
  • Organising recreational activities for disadvantaged families.
  • Liaising with skills centres in Somaliland to offer Somaliland soldiers skills to come back to civilian life.
  • To provide assistance with costs access to education for Somaliland children and young people.
